Noel Tata Appointed Chairperson of Tata Trusts After Ratan Tata’s Death

Noel Tata has been named the new chairperson of Tata Trusts following the death of his half-brother, Ratan Tata, one of India’s most revered industrialists. Tata Trusts, which controls a 66% stake in Tata Sons, is the philanthropic arm of the Tata Group, a business conglomerate with annual revenues exceeding $100 billion.

Noel Tata, 67, is the son of Naval Tata and Simone Tata, and has been a key figure in various Tata companies for years. He currently chairs Tata International, Voltas, and Tata Investment Corporation, while also serving as vice-chairman of Tata Steel and Titan. He has also led Tata’s retail arm, Trent Limited, since 2014, overseeing its growth with successful brands like Westside and Zudio.

The Tata Trusts board unanimously elected Noel as its new chairperson. He expressed gratitude, saying, “I am deeply honoured and humbled by this opportunity. We rededicate ourselves to continuing our philanthropic initiatives.”

Noel’s children are also involved in the group: his son Neville heads Star Bazaar, his daughter Leah oversees the Gateway brand under The Indian Hotels Company, and his daughter Maya works at Tata Digital.

Ratan Tata, who was unmarried and had no direct heirs, left a significant leadership void. Noel Tata’s appointment ensures that the Tata family legacy of business leadership and philanthropy will continue for generations.
